Modernisation of material testing machines:

Hegewald & Peschke Ltd. modernises testing machines independently of their original manufacturer.

Modernisation makes sense in cases when the machine frame is still in good condition so that new investment would be considerably more costly. An offer for a new machine should always be requested in investment planning. As a rule, the modernization of a universal testing machine is economically interesting starting from a capacity of 100 kN.

Extensometers, tempering chambers and fixtures - if there are any - can be further used in most cases. Any offer for modernization should be preceded by an assessment by our service.

Depending on the given application, Hegewald & Peschke Ltd. offers the following three options for modernizing or upgrading universal testing machines:

Option 1

Upgrading electromechanical or hydraulic material testing machines with data collection system

Upgrade of electromechanical or hydraulic material testing machines with recording of measurement system. In this option, the measurement channels for force, arm lift and elongation are recorded and digitized. Evaluation is conducted by Hegewald & Peschke Ltd. universal material testing software. The tension-compression testing machine is not controlled via the software.

Modernisation by this option comprises the following components:

  • electronic data collection system with digital force-distance indication
  • loading cell and arm/piston travel measurement system if necessary
  • optionally extensometer
  • material testing software
This modernisation option provides our customers with a low-cost upgrade of their testing equipment. They now can evaluate the data by modern software, store them, and transmit them to networks.

Option 2

Modernising electromechanical or hydraulic material testing machines with a modern digital control system.

The drive / servo amplifier of the electromechanical machine, or the hydraulic aggregate / servo valve of the hydraulic machine are kept, provided they are accessible by the control system. This question is clarified when our service assesses the machine prior to a modernization offer.

Modernization by this option comprises the following components:

  • electronic control with force-distance indication
  • loading cell and arm/piston travel measurement system if necessary
  • optionally extensometer
  • material testing software
This modernisation option results in a material testing machine completely controlled through the software for the customer of Hegewald & Peschke Ltd., an option which may be relevant even for low capacities, since its price is relatively small compared to buying a new machine.

Option 3

Modernizing electromechanical or hydraulic material testing machines with a modern digital control system and complete drive

Only the load frame is kept. For electromechanical machines, the existing drive is replaced by a modern brush-free AC drive with servo amplifier. Hydraulic machines are equipped with a new hydraulic aggregate and servo valve. The electronic components are installed in a control container.

Modernization by this option comprises the following components:
  • AC drive / servo amplifier or hydraulic aggregate / servo valve
  • electronic control
  • loading cell and arm/piston travel measurement system
  • keyboard for manual setup of the machine
  • optionally extensometer
  • material testing software
