In Mai, three universal testing machines for aerospace industry were delivered to China. An Inspekt table blue 5kN, an Inspekt table 50kN with temperature chamber and an Inspekt 250kN with lateral test room, temperature chamber and high-temperature furnace are used with versatile accessories for testing carbon-fibre or glass-fibre reinforced materials in accordance with the standards.
Carbon-fibre reinforced plastics (CFRP) and glass-fibre reinforced plastics (GFRP) are manufactured by embedding the fibres into a polymer matrix as reinforcement. This structure ensures high strength and stiffness and a low weight at the same time. Therefore, these materials are often used in aerospace, vehicle construction or for sports equipment.
However, these fibre-reinforced materials are characterised by strong anisotropy. Therefore, testing forces must be introduced precisely into the material. Hegewald & Peschke designed an alignment adapter specifically for that purpose, which allows adjusting the force application axis in such a way that the alignment error and thus shear forces acting on the specimen are minimised.
The delivered universal testing machines are used to carry out a great variety of standard-compliant tensile, bending and crushing tests on the CFRP and GFRP samples both at room temperature and practice-oriented temperatures between -70 and +350°C.
