Hegewald & Peschke Mess- und Prüftechnik GmbH recently delivered a dual test bench for side-to-side and armrest tests as well as a dual alternating bending test bench for seat-backrests and side-to-side or armrest testing to SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden.
While the design of the seat-backrest test and armrest test as dual alternating bending test bench primarily represents space and cost savings to the customer and both tests may otherwise work independently of each other as single test benches, the dual test bench for armrest or side-to-side tests was designed to also enable testing of sofas and other upholstery furniture. The centre column was shortened for this purpose and the width enlarged to be able to use the two outside cylinders for the armrests. Beyond this, two conventional chairs can be tested simultaneously and independently of each other.
Alternating between armrest test and side-to-side test is quite simple: the pressure pieces with the clamping connection – which has stood the test of time for decades – are replaced, the cylinders are moved to the respective position and their mobility is restricted or completely locked in place, the appropriate test templates are set – and the test can start.
The test station for conducting the seat-backrest test allows testing according to BIFMA X5.1 and the customary German standards – here especially according to EN 1335. In addition, testing according to BS 5459 can be performed.
