Linear module for roller tests on furniture

During roller testing, rollers are tested in continuous operation, whereby sleepers are also rolled over. This tests the durability of the castors and, in the case of swivel castors, also the durability of the steering bearings. During the cyclic back and forth movement, impact loads act on the rollers, simulating the rolling over of uneven floors or door thresholds. At the same time, in the case of swivel castors, the effect of direction changes on the roller and steering bearings as well as the tyres is recorded. For this purpose, TÜV Rheinland has equipped its testing laboratory in Nuremberg with a linear module from Hegewald & Peschke for testing rollers, cabinet doors and drawers.

The following tests are possible with the linear module:

  • Roll tests on complete chairs or base crosses
  • Threshold tests on rolling containers
  • Tests on sliding doors
  • Testing of drawers
  • Testing of table runners
  • Tests on components, e.g. on guide systems for furniture

Both endurance tests can be carried out over a number of cycles specified in the respective test specification or individual cycles to determine the force required for certain operating actions on furniture.Furniture manufacturers have the opportunity to test during development and, for example, to determine the changes in power requirements depending on the number of cycles. With the appropriate accessories, the sound level can also be recorded as a measured value, so that, for example, in the case of guideways, it is possible to assign noise formation to a specific position.

The test is controlled by the LabMaster test software, which provides a large number of options for influencing the test process for certain events - e.g. "Pause and wait for the tester" for manual assessment or decision on test continuation or automatic continuation with other parameters. The possibilities of the system in the context of product development go far beyond what the test specifications require.
