Testing of chairs and tables according to DIN standard

Hegewald & Peschke equip IHD Dresden with another furniture test bench

Test rig for seating furniture and tables

The Institut für Holztechnologie Dresden gemeinnützige GmbH (IHD) is an independent, globally active research institute with many years of experience in the field of development-related furniture and component testing. It deals with the application of new material composites and technologies and thus supports the wood industry and related fields in their research and development activities. Findings, which are worked out together with partners from the practice, are used for the development of new products in the area of living environment.

The Entwicklungs- und Prüflabor Holztechnologie GmbH (EPH) is a subsidiary of the IHD and offers testing, monitoring and certification services. For this purpose the EPH Dresden already has several material testing machines and furniture test benches from Hegewald & Peschke. Recently, the testing laboratory was upgraded with a new testing system of the Calmar series. The variable and modular test bay consists of a central control unit and 5 force/displacement controlled electromechanical test axes. With this system, cyclical durability tests as well as fatigue strength tests on components and furniture can be performed.

Vehicle seats and furniture for overweight persons (XXL) can be loaded with test loads up to 6kN. The control is done by the component and furniture testing software CalMaster developed by Hegewald & Peschke for complex testing tasks, with the additional module for synchronous multi-axis testing.

Testing is carried out according to the standards for seating furniture DIN EN 1728 (test methods for determining the strength and durability of seating furniture) and for tables according to DIN EN 1730 (test methods for determining the stability, strength and durability of tables).

The supplied test system can also be used for the following tests:

  • manipulation of folding seats,
  • horizontal table test,
  • horizontal static testing of railroad seats,
  • multi-axial testing of chairs and vehicle seats.
