Nossen, 21.06.2013 - The Hegewald & Peschke MPT GmbH, specialist for custom-designed measuring and test technology solutions of high quality, has developed a new special hardness tester for the coining production. The special testing machine works with coin brutes, so-called blanks, and hereby performs hardness testings fully automated after Vickers, Brinell and Martens. With the help of highly modern components the 500 N powerful machine realizes particularly high testing throughput, can be fitted easily and delivers extremely precise as well as reliable measurements.

The new hardness tester addresses among others manufacturers of brutes for the production of euro coins. The machine takes over important tasks in the production-related quality assurance here. Its test results provide obligatory declarations about the quality of the material used.

The new coining hardness tester of the Hegewald & Peschke MPT GmbH is fitted with blanks of the sizes 14 to 36 millimeters and edge heights of 1.0 to 3.0 millimeters. It is directly adjustable on new measurements and checks both homogeneous and layered blanks. Dull sample surfaces can be used as well as high gloss blanks made of all sorts of materials as e. g. aluminum, copper, nickel, gold or silver.

The hardness tester of the Hegewald & Peschke MPT GmbH contains a so-called swinging conveyor which grabs up to 100 blanks with a total weight of 2 kg. This new system makes effortful and time intensive pre-storing and sorting superfluous. The regulation of the load strengths is continuously carried out via a special testing software. Depending on the test procedures the samples are led to the visual measurement after the setting of the mark. From the second testing sample on both work steps go parallel. This saves time and increases the throughput of the machine.

At the hardness test procedures carried out by the machine special test bodies are pushed on the brute with exactly defined strength and speed. Thereby a small mark is generated, which is measured and converted to defined hardness scales with the help of the evaluation software „CoinFlip“. Samples outside the tolerances are immediately rejected over a separate track and can be checked manually.

The test execution and evaluation is carried out according to DIN EN ISO 6507 (Vickers hardness), EN ISO 14577 (Martens hardness) as well as DIN EN ISO 6506 (Brinell hardness) in a loading range of 50 N to 300 N.
