Clip-on extensometers

In the field of tactile strain measurement, Hegewald & Peschke sells clip-on extensometers (also knwon as clamp-on extensometers) for fine strain measurements (Young's modulus, Rp). These are clamped to the tensile specimen before the test begins. They are usually used to determine yield strengths, proof stresses and the increase in the elastic straight line. They can also be used to determine the Young's modulus (modulus of elasticity). Due to the limited measuring path (e.g. < 2 mm / < 25 mm), the devices are removed after determining these characteristic values during the test.

In addition to MFA systems for axial strain, there are also clip-on extensometers (MFQ) for determining transverse strain with one or two measuring points.

Advantages

  • Cost-effective with high resolution/accuracy (class 0.2 DIN EN ISO 9513 possible)
  • applied directly to the specimen; i.e. no vibrations are transmitted to the specimen by the extensometer
  • particularly suitable for determining the modulus of elasticity and elongation and yield strengths
  • suitable for strain measurement and for strain-controlled tensile tests
  • suitable for use in temperature chambers
  • double-sided design possible (constriction at break, modulus of elasticity)
  • biaxial strain measurement possible in combination with transverse extensometers (MFQ) (determination of the transverse contraction number, Poisson's ratio in accordance with ISO 527-1)
