Static-dynamic testing of dental implants
Micro testing machine inspekt micro LC 100N
The testing of dental implants is crucial to ensure their safety, durability and performance in clinical use (as dental prostheses). There are two main types of testing: dynamic (fatigue testing) and static testing. Both are regulated by the international standard ISO 14801, which defines specific requirements and methods for evaluating the mechanical properties of dental implants.
Static test:
- Purpose: Determines the maximum load capacity of the dental implant before failure.
- Procedure: A dental implant is loaded at a 30 degree angle until it fractures or significant deformation occurs. This test simulates the extreme forces that can occur during chewing activity.
- Results: The data from this test provides information on the maximum load capacity and fracture resistance of the implant.
Dynamic test (fatigue test):
- Purpose: Evaluates the long-term durability of the implant under repetitive loading.
- Procedure: The dental implant is repeatedly loaded over an extended period of time to measure fatigue strength. Typically, an oscillating force is applied that mimics natural chewing forces.
- Number of oscillations: 5 million or 2 million
- Test frequency: up to 15 Hz or 2 Hz
- Results: This test shows how the implant reacts to long-term loading and helps to identify possible weak points that could lead to failure in clinical use.
With the inspekt LC 100N micro testing machine, Hegewald & Peschke offers a testing system that is ideal for dynamic and static testing of dental implants. It can be used to record all material fatigue caused by mechanical stress and environmental conditions. The continuous load is simulated with a maximum load application of 100N and 50Hz for alternating loads. To simulate the real conditions in the oral cavity, the testing machine is equipped with a liquid container for wet tests.
The test results are recorded and evaluated using the Labmaster materials testing software.
