Load tests on shelving systems according to RAL-RG 614/1

When buying new shelves, you often find a maximum weight specification, but how is this determined? The permissible load is determined using specific test procedures:

1. Gradual loading: Shelves are first tested up to the nominal load and then until failure.
2. Standardized test conditions: As there is no DIN standard for these tests, the test conditions are defined by the German Institute for Quality Assurance and Certification at RAL.
3. Special test arrangement: A certain number of load application points are required to simulate realistic load situations.

Testing machine and test execution

The inspekt table 50 kN universal testing machine is used for these special requirements. It is equipped with a 50 kN wedge type grip and the LabMaster material testing software. The test setups were developed in collaboration with the customer in order to be able to carry out precise and realistic load tests.

Expansion of testing options

In addition to tests on shelves in accordance with RAL-RG 614/1, the new testing machine can also be used to carry out other tests:

• Material tensile tests for incoming goods inspection and component optimization 
• Bending and transom connection tests in accordance with the standard
