Testing of rocks under the influence of temperature
Universal testing machine inspekt 400 kN with climate chamber
Research into geomaterials and building materials is essential for sustainable mining, energy storage and sustainable construction. In order to obtain well-founded answers in these areas, the mechanical properties of rocks are examined in the laboratory under various climatic conditions.
Test system and test execution
An inspekt 400 kN universal testing machine with climate chamber from Hegewald & Peschke is used for these tests. The machine enables solid rock specimens (rock) to be tested under controlled temperatures between -30°C and 100°C.
The testing system includes:
- Universal testing machine inspekt 400 kN
- Climate chamber for simulating extreme environmental conditions
- 4-point bending device for bending tests
- Accessories for compression tests
- Testing software LabMaster for control and data evaluation
Why are temperature tests important?
Rocks are exposed to strong temperature fluctuations in the natural environment - from extreme heat to deep frost. These influences can significantly change their structure and stability. Targeted compression and bending tests can be used to precisely analyze mechanical processes such as deformation and stress. The data obtained helps to characterize and optimally utilize rocks with regard to their subsequent application possibilities.
