The metal tensile test according to ISO 6892-1 or ASTM E8 is an integral part of quality assurance, especially for processed materials and components.
The tensile test is the most frequently performed and therefore most important test in destructive materials testing. It is used to determine characteristic values such as yield or yield strength, tensile strength and elongation at break. Tensile tests on metal are used to determine strength and elongation characteristics that are of great importance for the design of components, devices, machines and vehicles.
The tensile test on metal can be carried out in four different temperature ranges. ISO 6892-1 regulates the metal tensile test at room temperature.
The standard specifies the form of the metal tensile specimens and the test procedure. Various test systems can be used for the metal tensile test. The presented test system is an example of the tensile test on metal for test loads up to 1200 kN.
The testing system consists of a tensile testing machine inspekt 1200 kN, hydraulic grips, a long travel extensometer MFX200, the material testing software LabMaster and different specimen grips. In addition to flat specimens, tensile tests can also be carried out on round specimens, thread specimens and shoulder specimens of various dimensions (in accordance with DIN 50125). Depending on the screw length, which ranges from 80 to 300 mm, the appropriate accessories are used.
