Quality control through metal thickness measurement is of immense importance in the production process. Due to deviations of the thickness from the target value, quality specifications according to specific standards can sometimes no longer be met and the further processing of the sheets can cause problems. Last but not least, the input of raw materials must also be monitored.

High-precision measuring machines have been developed for measuring the thickness of sheet metal strips, for example. These measure the thickness of the specimen at defined points on a long flat test piece. For this purpose, two measuring probes are used which are opposite each other and whose values determine the thickness of the test piece at the defined position in an addition process. The measurement is automated. The LabMaster operating software can be used to customise the measurement process and to conveniently output and process the measurement data.
